Stefanie Jason is a researcher, writer and curator. Currently an Art History PhD Candidate at Rutgers University, her dissertation examines critical memory practices and artistic experimentation in contemporary Southern African art. Alongside her doctoral studies, Stefanie is conducting research on a collection of 1990s images by South African photojournalist Ruth Seopedi Motau. Stefanie completed her MA at Wits University with a thesis on the archival absence of pioneering photojournalist Mabel Cetu.

Stefanie is a Rutgers Presidential Fellow 2020-2025 and a 2022 ArtTable Fellow working with Amant Foundation on the forthcoming exhibition Jayne Cortez: A Poet’s Guide to the World. She has written for publications like Aperture, ContemporaryAnd, and The Brooklyn Rail.
